July 27 2012 has come and gone and we have won a minor skirmish over the UN gun control treaty. Hillary didn't sign and so we have a brief respite from the diminution of our self government and freedom from outside interference. This war is still not over but merely postponed until after the November election. Listen and act with Dick Morris.

Government — Oh yeah I know what that is.

Wow! Now that's big. What a big concept. So What is it? What is it's purpose and what are it's responsibilities and duties? Let's start with some basics. First a definition:

Okay now we all know what government is, right?
   My understanding is like this; we, the governed, grant to the governing power(s) certain limitation(s) of our basic rights for their providing to us certain protection(s) or service(s.) So, the government provides protection - police, military, fire departments etc. It also provides such services as providing a money supply, highway systems, garbage collection, basic universal education etc. It now provides for public housing, public welfare, radio and television broadcasting, implementing and controlling the internet. Now it is extending into the area of universal health care, mandatory insurance. Food safety is now including what is good for us not just safe. How much sugar, fat, meat, exercise — on and on and on ad nauseum. So what is really needful for the government to do. Here is a quote from president Coolidge.

The Nobel Gnat

Well hello again from the foothills of the White Mountains. This weather is just as so many people have said. If you don't like it wait a little while and it will change. Warm Weather, Snow, Freezing temps, Warmer than Usual, Temps Drop, A Warming Trend followed by Much Colder Temperatures. Surely New Hampshire is living up to its reputation.

I am currently helping a great author by doing the proofreading of his latest novel. It will be published under the title of "A Simple Things Go By." It is living up to the standards set by its two predecessors, "On Love and Animals" and "Forever Yours."

If you like the kind of book which draws you in, like sitting down with an old friend and listening to their folksy tales, then you'll love this series. Make yourself a cup of hot chocolate or herbal tea and settle down for a comfortable read. You can 'see' things from a time gone by, an easier and simpler time.

Oh yeah, you might like to know the name of this author. Maxwell Wolven MacPherson, Jr. is not only an accomplished author but also a Master at creating Atlantic Salmon Flies. Max also is a musician, with several CDs to his credit, and a 'ham' radio operator.

So, you say what has all this to do with a gnat. As you can see from the demonstration above, where I almost forgot to mention Max's name, the reason that my wife tells me that I have the attention span of a gnat. My mind goes in so many directions at once that it is hard to keep things in an orderly fashion. I was also going to post some other ideas that I had but they too seem to have flown the coop.

Okay, I know it’s been forever (in internet terms) since I set up this blog and made a posting. I guess that you could say that life has had a way of getting in the way. However, I am back.

The first thing I need to do is to explain my belief system so you can understand where I am coming from in future postings. As you may have guessed from the video just added, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I refer to the name of my church by its full and correct name. Others have gotten by calling it “the Mormon Church,” this is okay for others but for me I want to be correct. The act of calling the church “Mormon” really started as a slur against it, some sort of left handed reference to ‘The Book of Mormon.’

That said, I will state once for the record that I believe in God the Father, His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost, i.e., what other Christians refer to as the Holy Trinity. Before converting to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I was raised as a Lutheran. Following my mothers faith. While still being influenced by my fathers faith and that of his parents. That was the Pilgrim Holiness Church. As you can see both very fundamental religions. So when I say that my God, my Christ and Holy Spirit are the same now as when I was growing up. I have heard and read many say, the mormon god and Jesus are not those of traditional christianity. To that I will again say you could not be further from the truth.

We believe all the correct teachings of any christian church plus some further truths which have been revealed since the organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We believe that the family can be forever. We believe that we must be accountable for our own actions. We believe that the heavens are not closed, that man still needs guidance from God to help us in our day. We do not worship Joseph Smith. We do not take multiple wives (banned in 1890). We do not believe that we can ‘buy our way into heaven’ by our good works. We do believe that they, good works, are merely an expression of our obedience to God and Christ’s commandments, and we area ‘saved by grace’ after all we do ourselves. Well, that’s enough for one posting. I think you can understand my basic P.O.V. and won’t misunderstand other postings in the future. I believe in trying my best to be the best I can be. Also, I believe in trying to help others to have a better life so as is within my ability.

general ramble 1

I was watching tv the other day and this guy comes on and says we all should have health care. Sure I think that everybody needs to to be able to see a doc if they need to but…
anyway he says that he's glad the people in the legislature have access to medical care and if he is elected he will tell them that. He then says that if they don't see to it that all of us are covered he will use his power as president to make sure that they will lose their coverage. That got me thinking. What power does the president really have. The president is empowered by the constitution to enforce the laws of the land. He has absolutely no power to make or change any law. How could any president take away any benefit for a legislator granted by some piece of legislation. Oh, maybe he would use his power as commander in chief to order the military to block their access to doctors, clinics or hospitals. I guess not. This reminded me of something I learned in a math class in college. The course was logic and by the rules of logic if a premise is false then any conclusion would be true. Since the premise is always false since the politician hasn't been elected anything he says, which follows, is a true statement. When are we Americans going to wake up and realize that these guys work for us. Not he other way around. They only have the power that we have given them to use to do what we want done.
Another thing what makes us think that we are less important than a spotted owl or snail darter or the great ooglebiter. (:b) I have lived long enough that I have seen so many of these crises come and then are never heard about again. I'm all in favor of, in fact I strongly urge, responsibility for and to this the only earth we have. But let's not go off half-cocked following anything or anyone who claims to have the solution. Some solutions are not solutions at all but a detour to greater problems. Let's look at the consequences of our actions.
Responsibility - Consequences; now there is something we can really ramble about.
I'll leave that for another time. Right now let's start to do something we don't usually take the time to do. I know it will take effort. But it will be worth it. THINK!
